Devastation and Delight

A poem.

A year of contradictions, devastation and delight.
A leader playing us with puppet strings,
Masked and unmasked confrontations,
Black lives vs white.

“I can’t breath” and calls for mothers divine intervention choked from Minnesota streets,
And daily from hospital floors.
We marched together while
People were dying alone.

We all slowed down.
Much needed time spent with those within
our walls.
Isolation from those left out too much for some to bear.

No more daycare bills or quick getaways,
money stacked higher and further
out of reach from those
deemed essential struggling to pay for necessities,
the irony.

Sun reenergizing creative spirits.
Nature trending again.
Store fronts closed while masterminds were created at home,
Mindsets shifted.
Empty schoolyards, Full election halls.
Grassroots flexed and energized.

A year of tears and reconnection,
a season of contradiction creation,
full of devastation and delight.
